Silly Prices!

I've just returned from York where I was quoting a customer for a single door, and we were up against Everest. Now guess where they started their price at for a single door, in white PVCu? £3300!

Where do they get their prices from?! It might have had something to do with the area where they lived; Long Marston, it looked a very nice, well off area. But this still shouldn't have an effect on the prices companies quote people. They then dropped the price several times and continue to ring her asking for her business.

I came in at less than £1k, for a black on white composite door. Including extra fuel money for me and the fitters. They also had Anglian out, they didn't tell me how much but from what they said it was a crazy high price as well.

When companies do their business in this way, how do they stay in business for as long as they have?

Absolutely staggerred how they can justify this kind of price, when there are so many other window companies in the market and surely the customer would have shopped around

Everest have 3 times your costs hence the high price

Anon - there are others with higher costs than us. Take Conservatory Outlet for example. They advertise a lot, manufacture, generally have lots of over heads. Yet I know they don't charge anywhere near that for a door!

They then came down from that price, I think to somewhere just below £2k

you see, as a consumer, where I would have the issue is how "all of a sudden" the price can come down so drastically. Then again, im in the business and most "reputable" double glazing companies sell their products at a fair price, never discount, never do BOGOF offers and such like. The price is the price. As it should be. not like we go to Tesco and ask for a discount is it?

we live in a free market. you cannot fix prices. so what this means is you get the best reasonable price for your product. the problem with a free market is the elderly and less inteligent tend to be overcharged due to the lack of compassion in humans.
dg gets picked out more due to its bad name.. but we all by a discount, its the same when buying an house. a car a 3 peice suite or even clothes. we live in a discount world based on find the cheapest quote around ! so it isnt just the window industry.... just pause for a minute and ask yourself.. how many times do you or i say, how much for cash?
