January Fitting

So then, who's booking into January 2011?

We're now planning the first few weeks of next January, which is fantastic news for us. This time last year I wasn't able to be so positive. But this year has seen a marked improvement and we're now able to make a good positive start into 2011.

Lead levels have surprisingly picked up this last week or so. I've had more leads so far this month than October. Usually you would expect that to be the other way round, but I'm not complaining!

The big question is how do we start pricing up current contracts? If we sign up jobs right at the end of this year at the current VAT rate, do we pay the same to our suppliers? Or do we start charging at the new VAT rate? I'm unsure about this myself. So far what I've sold I've managed to squeeze in before the end of the year. But others have sold jobs for after the New Year.

Anyone else finding themselves in the same situation?

If the contract is sign in 2010 the vat remains at present no matter if fit in 2011.Dgb do all you leads come via your company are do you need to find your own leads ie door knocking.

No, never door knock. All our leads are from people who have come to see us. We sometimes make extra leads by going out on site during fitting and making one for extra work. But we've never had to go looking for work.

It probably helps being nearly 30 years old mind. People know we've been around longer than most have lived in our area!

DGB,

It doesn't matter when you sell the job, it's when you invoice it that is important. If it's invoiced this year, then it's at 17.5%, if it's next year, it's 20%.

it doesn't matter when you buy the goods, as you claim all the VAT back anyway, regardless of the %.

You should really be quoting at 20% rate now, if you are going to be invoicing it next year, either that or swallow the difference.
