Police Crime Maps Could Help Sell

There were a few grumbles yesterday at the launching of the Police Crime Maps, showing the amount of crime in any area and the types of crimes begin committed.


But I think the industry could use this information to their advantage. Being able to physically show customers the crime levels in their area may give them that extra push to go for new windows and doors. Bit of a scare tactic I know but this would give installers a great excuse to show off their security features to help sell their wares.


After doing a few searches on local postcodes its interesting to see that a lot of the crimes recorded were made up of burglaries, car thefts and robberies. The rest were made up by anti-social behaviour crimes. We should use this information to push our products and get a wary public to buy a bit more swiftly!

The Break Secure Door Cylinder, Isn't So Break Secure Anymore

Since March 2005 we have been using a Break Secure door cylinder to combat burglar break-ins through cylinder attack. And up until this point we thought they were pretty much burglar proof. Well to a point. We knew that at some point burglars would find a way round to break the Break Secure door cylinder. Unfortunately that time has come. Over the Christmas period we had a speight of break-ins through cylinder attack. Some through normal Europrofile cylinders, but a couple were through Break Secure door cylinders. I'm not going to publicise how they did it for obvious reasons. But from this point we have dropped the Break Secure door cylinder for an updated model, for roughly the same cost too.

Again for obvious reasons I'm not going to say what we are using, otherwise our selling advantage would disappear! But I would suggest those using similar models at the moment look into changing them. News like this travels fast in the criminal community, so it won't be long till customers get wind that the first generation of Break Secure door cylinders aren't so burglar proof now.

Standard Europrofile Door Cylinders To Become Illegal

We all know the weaknesses that lie in a standard Europrofile cylinder, which is why we all use different versions of the cylinder to combat the various methods of attack from burglars. Well we have heard on the grapevine, and backed up by our lock suppliers, that Trading Standards is pushing through legislation to make it illegal to use a standard Europrofile door cylinder, for those that do fit insecure cylinders, it will become a sue-able offence.

This is great news to all those that have been using some form an anti-bump/pick/snap cylinder as it will force other companies to raise their prices by having to use the more secure cylinder type (although everyone should be using a mor secure cylinder anyway).

Further door security related news, we have been investigating a new form of door security which could render certain parts of traditional door locking functions pointless. I don't want to say much now as I don't want to give away any selling advantage to any competitors (namely RCG and WYW!). But if/when we start using it I'll let it be known how good it is. According to some it will be the next best thing. RCG better put out some moles!
