BBC Says PVCu Windows 'Compounded' Fire Problem

I direct you to this link and urge you to watch the report. Once you get two minutes in you'll hear a comment from the BBC reporter explaining that the PVCu windows in the building that was on fire 'compounded' the problem.

Over the past year, the PVCu industry has come under attack so many times. One such incident that springs to mind was the tower block of flats that caught fire and how the PVCu windows in the building were blamed for spreading the fire. The BBC later distanced itself from that claim, can't remember if there was an apology - probably not!

You would think that in this day and age, when the country has had PVCu windows fitted for the past 30 years and more, that the myth of PVCu windows helping fire spread would have disappeared, but obviously not. People, and reporters are more likely to just rely on old rumour, rather than check their information accurately.

My guess is that this is going to stick with the PVCu industry for quite a while, so whenever this sort of thing pops up we will have to continue to fight against misguided rumour and old-wives tales.

I will be contacting Scientist and Fire Consultants experts, your State fella above, saying its a Myth is again a statement you make, with out having scientific knowledge and its Appears you lack an understanding of your JOB.
Your 21 or so Years 0ld, and you think you know your industry better than those who don't?.
PVC-u Hollow framed window do spread Fires ?, why.
Its an insulator new Regulations fitting vents to windows, will now start showing even more, just how dangerous these windows are ?.
Because the BBA and FENSA claim its not a requirement of Building regs to install the Sleeves when installing Vents, this is complete rubbish, as it states in BBA acceditations that sleeves should be fitted, and these Accreditations have been signed by the Secretary of State.
By not fitting these sleeves, in a fire, the hot gasses enter the chambers inside the frame, and spread the fire and heat, the window then burns from within the Frames, and speeds up the fire, to the cavity walls. and creating faster deterioration of the Buildings, etc, also the new Snapper clips also pose even more dangers in the FIRES. far too complexed to explain these details to you here, but your a young Lad, stop protecting your industry, it is full of Rouges like Anglian Home Improvements who full evidence i have of employing criminals, look at the Court cases, a top judge even explained, Anglian are not to be believed, FENSA and theBBA have threatened to sue me. but i am fighting on, despite these threats.

PVCu has moved on a great deal since the early days of poor material choice and construction. When PVCu frames are tested, they go through fire retardent test prior to approval. The industry has learned their lessons from previous mistakes.

I have to ask the question would you not defend the industry you work in? I always thought someone that was dedicated would do their best to make sure other people's comments didn't damage their sector falsely. What industry do you work in? Would you defend it if it came under attack using old and irrelevant information?

My advice is to leave the court battles alone. I get the feeling your a customer that has been badly treated by a double glazing company and wishes to take the industry as a whole to task, a battle which is most likely un-winnable.

How about the following then, windows are tested and certified in the windows industry ?, am i correct < If they are and certified, the windows for instance the BBA test, in the hot box test, windows are tested without any holes in them, say for instance a vent slot, if the window is tested in this state, the Windows would fail, as the tested window, would fill up with water and fail the test, am i correct ?,
in which case, the windows are never tested with vent slots in them, the Certifications reflect the standards and the window tested, these certifications also state, that the windows have to remain in the same conditions of the tested window.

In which case, any Company who has these BBA certifications and other such tested windows, who then cut vent slots into their windows, are breaching the details of their Certifications, which means they are reducing the thermal efficiency of their Windows, and the standards set out in these certifications, by cutting these holes in the Profiles this is also breaching building regs, as the air then passes through the entire hollow framed window structure air circulating inside forms a cold bridge in the Profile add this to water vapours over several years, then this water builds up inside the result is glass freezing and frames freezing forming ice on both the frames and glass.

i am not from your industry and the abuse and threats i have received by many, i find very disturbing and have seen many ordinary Customers of window companies been threatened in some cases beaten up and elderly people been threatened, i find that some companies stop at nothing to bully the CUSTOMER knowing they will get away with it, but these cases are now been filmed and photographed and recorded, even then customers like myself are then still battling on 6 years later to bring fraudsters to book and have them arrested, even the particular Company i am battling with, its Solicitors have now been proved to be lying, so its very difficult if there are unethical Solicitors who stop at nothing to use illegal and unethical practices, as these people claim they have very deep pockets where is the justice in these cases.
